Madrid Community Schools is a student-centered public school system serving grades PK-12. All district schools are located within the town of Madrid.  The student-centered nature of the district is reflected in our district mission statement which is “We support all students by empowering each individual to grow in their abilities and discover their potential.”  The city of Madrid is in close proximity to both Ames and Des Moines.

Originally, the Madrid School's K-12 grades were located on one campus in 3 attached buildings.

Thanks to community support since the inception of the school district, the Madrid CSD now has three school buildings and an administrative building.  The buildings include a  K-5 Elementary School located in the center of town, a 6-12 Jr/Sr High School on the north side of Madrid, a single-room preschool building that contains a second room that can be expanded to house a 2nd preschool room located just north of the Elementary School, and a small administrative building that houses the superintendent and business office, also just north of the Elementary School.

Some of the projects that have been completed in the past 10 years include:

• Construction of two new science rooms and converting the old science rooms to make three full-size classrooms at the high school.
• Construction of an all-weather track, along with new visitor bleachers and home grandstands.
• New softball and baseball field fences, new softball and baseball field lights, along with an irrigation system for softball, baseball and football fields and some practice areas.
• The start and continuation of phases for new doors, windows, classroom and hallway painting, classroom and hallway lighting and HVAC system.
• All new competition gym floor at the Jr/Sr high gymnasium.
• Due to a successful bond referendum in 2020, renovations and new construction has taken place at both school buildings.  There were many updates to include, but not limited to, a new media center at the elementary building, a new wing of four classrooms at the Jr/Sr High, additional learning spaces for individual or small group needs, and renovations to both building offices.

In 2023-24, the district will be serving approximately 620 K-12 students, with an approximate FTE of 55 K-12 certified staff members.  This would include classroom teachers, counselors, special education teachers, at-risk teacher, reading strategist/Title I teachers, Instructional Coaches, school nurse, etc.  This would not include secretaries, associates, custodians, transportation drivers, coaches and administrators.  The current K-6 class sizes average under 20. 

All three grade spans (K-5 Madrid Elementary, 6-8 Junior High and 9-12 High School) received a commendable score on the 2022 and 2023 Iowa performance profile.  Approximately 86% of 2023 Madrid graduates went on to continue their education beyond the high school experience. 

The Madrid District is a 1:1 district where all 7-12 students are issued a Chromebook for their studies and can take the device home with them.  All K-6 students have access to a device at school, but do not take the device home.  Every classroom and learning space is equipped with a BenQ interactive display board.

Not only are academics a major focus at the district, so are the other components of developing well-rounded individuals to be a productive part of society. Over 80% of our 7-12 grade students are involved in at least one extracurricular activity.  At the Elementary School, there is a focus on “Tiger Traits,” which are Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, and Be Kind. At the Jr/Sr High School there is a focus on “Jr/Sr High Tiger Traits,” which are “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe.”

The Madrid School CSD has a five-member School Board.  All board members are elected at-large.
